I’m lazy. If I’m going to eat something that’s good for me, it’s got to be delicious, which is why I have a hard time eating right. I love vegetables, especially in cheesy gratins, which is counterproductive, and I’m a sugar and carb fiend with unpredictable blood sugar issues, which makes my cravings wicked mean when I try to fast.

It’s still new in the New Year, there’s time to re-up your follow through on your resolutions in case you feel yourself slipping. In that spirit, I’ll be posting about a different aspect of clean living each day this week—as much for myself as for you. This week: Bar Method

In a bid to take over the waxing world, The Wax Bar owner Karen Jahn has opened a new location in Laurelhurst this month, joining salons in West Seattle and Ballard. The Wax Bar offers personal waxing services from the brow to the bikini lines, ears, nose and toes, a very special service that involves a Brazilian and a Swarovski crystal tattoo, and all manner of facials and other skincare. In addition, The Wax Bar is the only spa in Washington state with a liquor license, for enjoyment and liquid courage.

That caught your eye, didn't it?  Gordon James Fine Diamonds is a new jewelry store in Bellevue with an amazing pedigree.  Gordon Raine, the man with the bling, has been making the region sparkle a little brighter for decades, and is interested in giving you a little post-holiday gift.  Sign up for emails at their (in-progress) website and be entered to win a $1000 gift card.  Which will go a long way towards making 2013 a very good year. Good luck!

By far one of my most fav stores in Seattle (one I sadly rarely get to visit because I've always got my kids with me) is Far4. I just love Jenny and Yuri's eye for sophisticated, but totally eccentric and unique, home decor, jewelry, accessories and of course, porcelain. It's sale time at Far4 with all items in the store at least 10 percent off, including 15 percent off jewelry and 20 percent off 2-D art. The kids are with the nanny today—I'm so there.

It's cold, gross and rainy and all you want to be is cozy. Good thing Icebreaker has come to town. Located in the old Betsey Johnson store on Fifth Avenue, Icebreaker is a New Zealand company that uses Merino wool to make a line of clothing that is perfect for Seattle. It's wool, so it's warm. It breathes, so it wicks away moisture from the body and helps regulate body temperature. It's soft, which is nice.

You were bombarded with big box store sales before Christmas, and now that it’s after New Year’s let’s gently lay out the small boutique sales. They’re so much more pleasant to shop: Sandylew 40 percent off every little “thang.” Charlie & May 40 to 50 percent off of most store inventory including gift and home décor items. La Ree 30 to 60 percent off all the brands you love to covet, including Isabel Marant, Alexander Wang and APC.

I like it better when we don’t lose our designers to New York, but it happens. And when it does, they often have a sale, so that’s a good thing. I guess. We lost Irene Wood last year and this year's it's accessory designer Rian Berry, whose crew is picking up and heading east soon, but not before selling off their inventory of slouchy-chic bags and scarves (for men and women) from both the Rian and the Poverty Flats by Rian lines.

Named one of Seattle magazine's Most Influential People of 2012 for her Pink Carpet Project (a response to the Susan G. Komen kerfuffle), Cameron Levin's Ruby collection of pretty and completely wearable tops, dresses, skirts and a legging contains some sweet options for holiday parties—both dressy and casual.

Eileen Fisher has been making women look chic and feel good since 1984. The downtown Seattle store has been open for 15 years—and many of the same employees who opened the shop are still working there—which is a testament to how awesome an organization it is.

I was in fourth grade in 1982, the year “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” came out and while I probably didn’t understand much about the movie, I knew that Spicoli’s black and white checkerboard slip-on Vans were super cool and that I wanted a pair for Christmas, which I got and wore to shreds around Lakeridge Elementary on Mercer Island where I grew up.

made in sodo designer katrina hess
Designer Katrina Hess’ line of bespoke rain gear was inspired by the avid cyclist’s simple need to stay dry when riding during our wet and wild weather. Uninspired by outerwear she saw on the market, this intrepid former graphic designer rolled up her sleeves and made her own coat to fulfill her needs. That was two years ago, and since then, Hess has been crafting Made in Sodo coats with intelligent modifications for bikers.

Here’s a cool thing going on this week in the holiday shopping scene: Underwood Stables (formerly known as Horses Cut Shop) at 4306 Fremont Avenue N (next door to Uneeda Burger) is opening up their (formerly super secret) space for two sales this pre-Christmas week.
