Must Cheer Mariners Opening Day: Live Macklemore Performance
Thursday, 04/07/2011 6:45 PM
From underground (Hollow Earth Radio) to tragically hip (Too Beautiful to Live), this month’s media story ("Radio Waves") reveals that podcasting isn’t just a relic of the mid-2000s.

My love for Capitol Hill rapper Macklemore (aka Ben Haggerty) is no secret--in fact I gave him a 2010 Spotlight Award last September. Since then he's only been gaining in acclaim, and tomorrow, he'll sing "My Oh My," his touching tribute to Dave Niehaus, at the Mariner's Opening Game. Go Ben! (Oh, and go Ms, too.) If you want to learn more about this local superstar before he hits the field, read my profile from last year.

If you follow me on Twitter you know I’ve been a bit cryptic lately because I have a big, big secret to spill: We’re putting on a Seamless in Seattle fashion show. We’re combing the city for the best up-and-coming fashion designers hungry to change the face of local fashion and once again we’re offering big prizes, winners will appear in a fashion spread in the September 2011 Seattle magazine. This year’s deadline is just one short week away on Friday, April 15.

April is here, which means the Seamless in Seattle deadline is fast approaching with just 15 more days to get your applications in. If I may be so bold, I would really encourage all your emerging designers to enter, because this year, well this year we have a serious new development up our sleeve. Check back here Wednesday, April 6 for the big announcement. (Since I’m bursting, I’ll give you one hint: you’ll need to buy a ticket.)

Poquitos
"Poquitos" is about as fitting a name for Capitol Hill's new Mexi-palace as “Tiny” is for a 300-pound man. I got the chance to soak it all in at the pre-opening party on Friday, and nothing owners Deming Maclise and James Weimann (the powerhouse duo behind Bastille Cafe & Bar) have done with their latest project is small.

Perched on a red chair at pseudo-Mafioso bar Vito’s on First Hill last week, giraffe-legged, rock-jawed Ted Danson presented me with an environmental riddle: He does not surf. Or dive. Or even go sailing, unless someone he likes insists on it. Yet he spends most of his time on the water.

(Can't run with scissors!)Cooked white beans, fresh sage and a touch of tomato paste create the creamy base for this nourishing soup.  Ribbons of kale add color, texture and major nutrients.  Serve with Pumpkin Pecan Muffins or a bit slice of warm bread and butter.  Who can resist?  Printable recipe click here.
