In November, I moved from Wedgwood to Mount Baker, city-side near Massachusetts Ave. I moved for many reasons—to be closer to work and in a more urban setting, near better transit options and with great walkability, and, yes, for a more diverse experience. Among other things, I wanted to live somewhere where everyone did not look or live like me—and to be stretched and enriched by these new relationships. My husband and I focused our home search mostly in the Central District, and by chance, landed further south.

He left Ray’s on Tuesday and now, after nearly 30 years, chef Wayne Johnson is taking a much needed (and deserved) break from the restaurant industry. And don’t even think about asking him what’s next. He's not planning a damn thing. I met up for coffee with the completely relaxed and happy looking chef this afternoon near his home in West Seattle. Because, you know, he has time to do that sort of stuff now.

Must RockSeattle musician Ayron Jones Opens for B.B. KingMonday (3/3, 7:30 p.m.) — Like the very best rock ’n’ rollers, emerging Seattle musician Ayron Jones seems just slightly unhinged when he performs his own blend of blues and grunge. Witness Jones live at The Moore Theater when he opens for blues legend B.B. King.

drinks for oscars party seattle magazine
It’s time to roll out the red carpet for all those you’ve invited over to watch the 2014 Oscars (and hopefully it’s a bunch of folks, cause it’s always more fun to watch with a crowd). But to ensure that your Academy Awards party is the winner, serve up one of the following drinks. Two of these bevs match up nicely with films up for Best Picture, and two hearken back to silver screen goddesses of the past, if you're feeling a little nostalgic.

Well played, Occidental Plaza. You managed to get yourself three pretty fantastic anchors courtesy of one of Seattle's most lauded restaurateurs. London Plane, the long-awaited sequel to Matt Dillon's (Sitka & Spruce, Corson Building, Bar Sajor) wine bar and retail shop of the same name opened at 8 a.m. this morning, completing his two-tiered collaboration with Katherine Anderson of Marigold & Mint.

Spring is just barely upon us, but you may still need to shake out those winter chills after a long and dreary season. In our March issue, we wrote about road tripping it to Sol Duc Hot Springs and Resort, which is nestled in a valley carved by the mighty Sol Duc River in the Olympic Peninsula and embraced by old-growth evergreens. But we couldn’t just stop at one. Here are a few of our favorite not-too-far-away places to soak up the healing hot mineral waters.

Back in January, Allison Scheff broke news that Dot's Delicatessen would be closing its Fremont doors to make way for a revamp that would ultimately see it transform from corner deli to Dot's Charcuterie & Bistrot. And tonight, ladies and genteleman, is the night of the grand reveal.

I rarely follow celebrities on Twitter because of snooze-ville tweets like this. I much prefer to get my dose of daily news and commentary from journalists and other witty average Joes and Janes of the world. This Sunday, March 2, marks the 86th Annual Academy Awards, the day when fancy-pants celebs in grand gowns and suits descend upon Hollywood's Dolby Theatre and pretend they've not disowned carbs for the past two months.
