If you haven't yet had the pleasure of touring Discovery Park in Magnolia, join a Seattle Park's docent on a 3.5 mile walk there this coming Wednesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. (ages 18+ only). Plan on some slight elevation gain and, given that this is Seattle, be prepared for mud and rain. Part of the hike will be done in silence so participants can listen for the sounds of the season. While the hike is free, pre-registration is required by calling the Discovery Park Environmental Learning Center at 206.386.4236.
I will get up early on Saturday mornings—but it had better be for a darn good reason (because otherwise, sleep, reading the paper and drinking approximately 5 cups of coffee is the name of the game). Starting bright and early at 8 a.m., Nordstrom experts will preview new spring colors and share makeup tips at the 2-hour long event.
Must SeeFirst Thursday art walk: Joey Veltkamp Thursday (3/3) - Seattle artist and local art blogger Joey Veltkamp has a well-documented owl obsession (his last show featured more than 30 papier-mâché owls), but now he’s on to something new—ghosts. For this show, he’s fired more than 20 ceramic spooks, using paint and resin to give a glazing effect. If you haven’t yet encountered the endearing work of this rising star, it’s high time. If you're climbing the walls in your house with all the bad weather this winter, maybe you should check out one of Seattle's indoor rock climbing gyms. Vertical World (daily rate for non-members: $16; monthly membership: $70) started it all off when it opened the doors on the world's first indoor climbing gym in Ballard back in 1987.
