The 5th Avenue Theatre started the year in style with the touring production of South Pacific, which sailed into Seattle last Friday and will be playing thru February 21. Even without the swimming, boating, hiking and sunshine, San Juan Island is a pretty darn nice place to be in the wintertime. Cozying up to the gas fireplace in a lakeside log cabin at Lakedale Resort, doing a puzzle and reading a book, sipping on a glass of locally crafted San Juan Vineyards wine. Who could mind a little rain? Maybe later I'll go for a hike. Or not. If only I could stay here forever...

Seattle actress and writer Marya Sea Kaminsky steals the show with her moving (and rocking, roiling, spitting, moaning, shaking) portrayal of Electra, a woman imprisoned by her own mourning and hunger for vengeance. Teriyaki, people. Martha Stewart wants to talk to me about teriyaki. Wha? Huh? No, I've got no expertise on the matter. I like the stuff as much as the next gal for everyday convenience: it's cheap, good enough, quick. I grew up here, so I grew up on it. But no one is more dumbfounded yet excited than I am to talk to her majesty Martha than I am, and if teriyaki's the topic, then so be it. Frankly, I'd talk to her about tuna casserole. I mean, this is Martha Stewart we're talking about. (Do you think she'll be nice to me?)
