You just never know who you’re going to bump into at the huge Aspen Food & Wine Classic Grand Tasting Tent.

There are hundreds of wineries, scores of food purveyors, not to mention ginormous displays of dazzling gadgets, gizmos and kitchen equipment for the home cook and the pros.

More than 5,000 consumers streamed into the two football-field-size tents several times a day to sip and sup. It was a complete and sweet surprise to find Seattle folks in the house.

Food & Wine magazine’s best new chefs Cormac Mahoney from Madison Park Conservatory and Willows Inn’s Blaine Wetzel were prominently featured.

Dry Soda attracted a lot of attention from folks looking for a refreshing alternative from all the beer, wine and moonshine. Yes, there was legal Tennessee moonshine being poured. Dry’s big cheese, Sharelle Klaus was pouring the popular Rhubarb, Lavander and others.

And for those looking for an afternoon jolt, Fonte Roasters were cranking out all sorts of espresso drinks. That coffee company also hosted a Hangover Breakfast at the historic Hotel Jerome.

Pouring wines were Charles Smith and Chateau Ste. Michelle.

Finally, there were those outstanding Panzanella crackers providing the perfect platform for Rogue Creamery’s dreamy cheese. So, so good with the many, many fine wines I tasted during this epic three-day event.
