Gathering Up the Fragments: The Andrews Shaker Collection
The current Shaker population may have shrunken to the single digits, but at one time the ascetic religious community boasted more than 6,000 members—and the group’s artisan crafts still draw interest and respect. Gathering Up the Fragments: The Andrews Shaker Collection showcases more than 200 Shaker objects collected by Faith and Edward Deming Andrews, prominent scholars of Shaker culture. Organized by the Hancock Shaker Village, the exhibit shares more than just drawings, furniture, and textiles; it reveals the delicate, not always friendly relationship between the Andrews and the Shakers.
