Bryn Magnus of Washington Ensemble Theatre gives new meaning to avant-garde with this frenetic look

If you’re bored by the standard offerings certain larger theaters resort to in the hopes of increasing ticket sales (but in this economy, who can blame them?), get thee to the Washington Ensemble Theatre. This scrappy little theater never fails to present something entirely fresh. It’s often something entirely weird, as well, such as Love Horse, by poetic playwright Bryn Magnus. This twisted, funny love story features “boy-band butoh enforcers” and “a cokehead dentist,” and a pace as swift as a racehorse. 7:30 p.m. $15–$25. Washington Ensemble Theatre, 608 19th Ave. E; 206.325.5105;washingtonensemble.org
