Spectrum Dance

Esteemed Seattle choreographer Donald Byrd never shies away from taking a second look through his impressive body of work and reexamining it with a current perspective. This month he presents a refreshed version of 1991’s award-winning The Minstrel Show, a piece he originally created in response to the racially motivated murder of Yusef Hawkins in 1989. Trayvon Martin’s death prompted him to craft The Minstrel Show Revisited, about persistent caricatures of black men.
