Theaster Gates: The Listening Room

The intersection of history, place and performance fascinates Chicago-based artist Theaster Gates, recipient of SAM’s 2011–2012 Gwendolyn Knight and Jacob Lawrence Fellowship. This solo exhibition makes his preoccupation tangible by transforming the gallery into a bazaar of cultural ephemera—including stacks of vinyl records from the ’60s,’70s and’80s. Time and prices vary with museum hours and admission. SAM, third-floor galleries, 1300 First Ave.; 206.654.3100; seattleartmuseum.org
