It’s Always “Happy Hour” in the Canlis Lounge

Hey, did you know that you don’t need reservations at Canlis to drop in for a bite and a sip? Spiff yourself up and stop by the snazzy, swanky Canlis lounge.

There isn’t technically a happy hour here (but wouldn’t it be dreamy if there were a secret handshake that got you happy-hour prices?). There is, however, a bar menu with relative bargains, such as hamachi sashimi with serrano chiles and apples ($8); tender pork belly with huckleberry, coriander and black pepper, and pickled rutabaga ($10); and a cocktail list that offers some of the most inspired drinks in town.

It’s impossible to beat the vibe. We love to dress up, pop in for a shivering martini and tap our toes to the twinkling ivory versions of “Rock You Like a Hurricane” and “Billie Jean,” played by longtime pianist Walt Wagner. Perhaps the best part: no rushing to get there before happy hour ends; the lounge is open until 10 p.m., Monday–Thursday; until 11 p.m., Friday–Saturday.
