Knute Berger Looks at the Monkey Business Behind the Space Needle
By Seattle Mag June 5, 2012
Tonight in Seattle, editor at large Knute Berger offers the first in a series of Century 21-related lectures sponsored by Historic Seattle. The talk is titled “From Bobo to the Bubbleator: Seattle Social and Cultural Context in ’62.”
Hear Berger’s humorous and insightful take on the historic cultural context that made both the World’s Fair and the Space Needle possible. Trust us: even if you’re not a history buff, it’s interesting. From anecdotes about streakers on the Space Needle, to reflections on the city’s early ambitious aspirations, Berger is a fount of fascinating information on the subject.
If you haven’t yet, peruse some of his Grey Matters columns, published monthly on the back page of Seattle magazine. They have shed much light on the kooky and rapidly-changing times that were the 1960s in Seattle.
