The opinion of many an opera buff is that this 1607 Claudio Monteverdi masterwork is the piece that started it all: the first time that theater and music joined together as opera. Whatever the case, the story about the trials and tribulations of Orfeo, his bride, Euridice, and their journey from the field of Thrace to the underworld is one of the earliest operas that has survived the ages. The opera is produced by Pacific MusicWorks, with Canadian tenor Colin Balzer playing the title role, led by Grammy-winning Monteverdi expert and MusicWorks artistic director Stephen Stubbs
