MUST CHEER
Syttende Mai Parade in Ballard

Thursday (5/17) – May 17 marks Norwegian Constitution Day or Syttende Mai (pronounced Soot-n-duh My). It’s the day when Ballardites come out of the woodwork to celebrate the neighborhood’s rich Scandinavian heritage. The main event is certainly the parade, featuring music, dancing, lots of traditional garb and, of course, a merry viking or two. It all starts at 62nd and 24th Avenue NW at 6pm and ends at Ballard Ave. at Dock St. Note: bus routes are affected.
5/17, 6pm-8pm. Free. Ballard. More info at 17thofmay.org

Snow Conditions Still Good!

Saturday and Sunday (5/19–5/20) – Crystal Mountain boasts it’s the only ski area in Washington still open, and it plans to remain so through Memorial Day for skiing and snowboarding (perhaps even later, conditions permitting). Get one last run in, and check out the high-flying Gondola (the tram with a vertical rise of 2500 feet!), which is open this Saturday and Sunday and then closes until June.
