The Must List: Bumbershoot, Husky Football, a Birthday Barbecue Feast and Roger Shimomura at the Greg Kucera Gallery

Seattle band Kithkin will perform at Bumbershoot

Must Rock Out

(8/31 to 9/2, times vary) — This end-of-summer arts extravaganza pulls together some of the biggest names in comedy, visual arts, theater and, of course, music. Local bands worth braving the crowds for: Kris Orlowski, Kithkin, The Redwood Plan, Katie Kate, BellaMaine and Allen Stone.

Must Cheer
Washington Huskies Home Opener

Saturday (8/31, 7:00 p.m.) — The construction crews will clear out just in time for kickoff on Saturday when the University of Washington takes on rival Boise State for the home opener—the first game in the thoroughly renovated Husky Stadium.

Must Feast
Tilth Restaurant’s Birthday BBQ

Saturday (8/31, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.) — Chef Maria Hines celebrates Tilth Restaurant’s 7th birthday with a bourbon and BBQ menu on Saturday afternoon. The four-course, family-style feast features Carolina-style sliders and Wagyu beef ribs along with comfort food faves such as mac-and-cheese, slaw and deviled eggs.

Must See
Roger Shimomura at Greg Kucera Gallery

(Through 9/28, times vary) — Frustrated by the presumption that he’s not American, Seattle native Roger Shimomura created this new series of paintings, American Knockoff, in which he uses Pop Art and comic book influences to portray himself as battling both American icons and Japanese stereotypes.

Must Roam
The Evergreen State Fair
(Through 9/2, times vary) — Trek north to Monroe for the very last weekend of this sweeter, more old-fashioned state fair, spread across 194 acres and filled to the brim with rides, a rodeo, sheep judging and even a cat costume-making class. Meow!
