Tilth Plant Sale
Dust off your pruning shears, shovels and gardening clogs in preparation for Seattle Tilth’s huge Edible Plant Sale at the Good Shepherd Center in Wallingford. Shoppers will find plants of all kinds available for purchase, including over 50 varieties of tomatoes, 20 types of peppers, edible flowers and other warm season crops like corn and berries. Mike Daisey
One-time Seattleite Mike Daisey, the provocative monologist known for his, er, creative fusion of art and journalism, is back in town with the West Coast debuts of two new shows: American Utopias and F***ing F***ing F***ing Ayn Rand. For the first piece (running this week only), the master storyteller weaves hilarious personal narratives about Burning Man and Disneyland with expansive philosophical commentary about corporatism. The Cave Singers
Seattle’s beloved neo-folk rockers The Cave Singers perform songs from their brand new album Naomi, which features new band member Morgan Henderson (formerly of The Fleet Foxes). Get to know Henderson a bit better before the show by reading Nancy Guppy’s interview with him, in her debut column for Seattle magazine—and find out who wins their arm wrestling contest. 5/4, 9pm. Voix Humaine and Suor Angelica
Only one person appears on stage in Francis Poulenc’s 1959 monodrama Voix Humaine, but the woman’s desperate intensity is as mesmerizing as a cast of hundreds. Jilted by phone, she attempts to keep her lover on the line as long as possible, despite countless interruptions. Also on this Seattle Opera double bill is Suor Angelica, Giacomo Puccini’s 1918 opera about a pious woman who chooses death over rejection by her family. 5/4-5/18.
