Must Dance
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater
Friday – Sunday (3/25–3/27) – This mixed-repertory program includes a celebration of 50 years of “Revelations,” Ailey’s signature work, in which dancers trace the African-American transition from slavery to freedom via movement set to blues, gospel and spiritual music. By far Ailey’s most heralded, popular work, “Revelations” displays the company’s unique blending of modern, jazz and African dance traditions—watch for upwardly arced arms and faces flung skyward—and in the process reveals the painful tribulations and soaring triumphs of the human spirit. Times and prices vary. 5th Avenue Theatre, 1308 Fifth Ave.; 206.625.1900; 5thavenue.org

Dan Savage and Terry Miller

What started as a simply produced Youtube video featuring Dan Savage and his partner Terry Miller to reach out to lesbian, gay, bi and transgendered youth after the suicides of two gay teenagers bullied by classmates. Today, more than 10,000 people (including President Barack Obama) have posted their own “It gets better” videos. This week marks the release of the book It Gets Better, a collection of stories similar to the videos. See the duo speak at Town Hall about the campaign. 7:30 p.m. $5. Breadth: A Cross-Examination of Seattle Portraits
Through 4/16 – Some of Seattle’s hottest painters, sculptors and photographers will be in the same room—on the same walls!—in this amazing group show, including work by Dan Webb, Gretchen Bennett, Joseph Park, Joey Veltkamp, Klara Glosova, Mandy Greer and many others. They’ll all give their takes on local places and people, with the intriguing constraint that no piece can exceed 20 inches in width. Times vary. Free. Must Revisit
All My Sons at Intiman Theatre
Through 4/17 –
The popularity of All My Sons—which earned Arthur Miller both a Tony Award and an appearance before the House Un-American Activities Committee—means you’re probably familiar with it, but this version of the family drama boasts two important distinctions: It is set in Seattle’s Central District (circa 1947) and stars Tony Award–winning actor Chuck Cooper as the troubled Joe Keller. Times and prices vary. Intiman Theatre, 201 Mercer St.; 206.733.8222; intiman.org
