Rock n' Roll Marathon Comes to Seattle

The Rock N’ Roll marathon takes places in several major cities around the U.S, like San Diego, Virginia Beach, and San Antonio. Now the race is coming to Seattle. On June 27, 2009, competitors can run a half or a full marathon beginning in Tukwila and traveling through all the attractions in Seattle, ending at Qwest Field.

What makes it stand out from your run-of-the-mill marathon is that musical acts will perform at every mile of the race. The line-up hasn’t been set yet, but most bands will be local Seattleites. Every genre of music will be present, from jazz to country and even cover bands.

It sounded to me like a linear bumbershoot, but PR rep Dan Cruz (for The Competitor Group, who puts this whole thing together) assured me that world-class athletes compete and that the race is both serious and fun.

I am not fond of running, unless it is to catch a bus, but this sounds entertaining. Local music is amazing in Seattle and I love to check out new talent. If you race, you also get free admission to a headliner concert in Marymoor Park that night. Another cool aspect to this race is that cheerleaders will be posted along the route to cheer you on. They will be from local high schools and middle schools, and can raise money for their school by participating. Not too mention, help get you through the tough patches of the race.

Don’t worry if you’re new to the racing world. The website offers tips and training regiments you can follow to get ready. Registering can be pricey, but they do offer early registration discounts. For more information, go to rnrseattle.com. Who knows? You might see me there.
