Oh, to write the Great American Novel. Many of us dream of the day when we will quit our day job and crank out the next literary masterpiece. And each year National Novel Writing Month (aka NaNoWriMo) tells us to stop dreaming and start writing. This international online invitational asks dedicated writers to commit to writing a minimum of 50,000 words by midnight on November 30th. Seattle has a reputation for word-nerdiness, and indeed, when it comes to NaNaWriMo, our city is ranked first nationally for overall word count, average number of words, as well as number of donations for this event. Are you up to it? Better start right now—the clock is ticking. If you find that you need a little support during your month-long write-a-thon (and you will), visit nanowrimo.org to seek out local writers' groups and to chat with other writers in the forums. Note: chats with other NaNoWriMo participants do not count toward your overall word count.
