Having a little late breakfast with my young son yesterday at the always delicious Geraldine's (I've said it before and I'll say it again: the ricotta pancakes with strawberries are better than any other pancakes in town), I happened to pick up a flyer for Bo Ramen. Longtime chef Bo Maisano (with stints at the Tin Table and Madison Park Cafe on his resume) caught the ramen bug after reading David Chang's Lucky Peach, and in May he'll be doing four pop-up dinners on Capitol Hill (at Skelly & the Bean) and in Columbia City at Geraldine's.
There are three ramens on offer: shoyu (the classic rich pork version pictured above), miso shrimp and miso veggie, and bowls are $9.50. And since there's nothing better than a little something sweet after a salty meal, I can't help but hope that Maisano's girlfriend, the legendary pastry wiz Sue McCown, will bake up something for dessert!
To reserve for the Skelly & the Bean dinners on Tuesdays, May 1st & 8th (5:30 pm - 9:00 pm) go through Brown Paper Tickets. Call Geraldine's to reserve a bowl on Saturday May 5th & Saturday May 19th (5:30 pm - 9:00 pm). Or drop-in. And note: bring cash; no credit cards or checks will be taken.
