Mia comes from a long line of entreprenerial pioneers. Her father was an adventurous, industrious individual who valued his freedom and doing his own thing and who took his daughters along for the ride. He was the last generation of a 100 year old woolen mill which sat on the banks of the Illinois River in the midwest, founded by his great grandfather who migrated to the midwest in 1865 from Scotland. Mia is imbued with that same spirit of the individual and this is clearly demonstrated in her clothing design and lifestyle.
She is inspired by nature, and by asking simple questions of herself and the fabric she is working with. She is more interested in the line and fit, texture and drape of the garment than color and pattern or extraneous seams, and details. Although the details of clothing construction are important, she loves simple, essential and functional pieces that work from day to night. She is very much an urban dweller with roots in the country life. These qualities are demonstrated in the organic nature of her designs and the fabrics she chooses.
