Looking for a stylish vacation home in a hurry? Check out Method Homes’ (9700 24th Ave., Seattle; 206.789.5553; methodhomes.net) first pre-fabricated, green modular home, The Method Cabin.
Designed by Seattle’s Balance Associate Architects, the cabins are built fast, deliverable in just four to six months, but aren’t cookie-cutter. From layout and size (ranging from 800 to 2,000-plus square feet) to siding and finishes, nearly every element of the cabins, which are expected to cost about $175 per square foot, is customizable. “Our mission is to add innovation to homebuilding and to provide people with well-designed, healthy homes,” says Method co-founder Brian Abramson. Method is targeting a LEED Gold certification for the cabins, which will be packing such green features as an energy-efficient metal roof, hydronic radiant flooring, solar pre-wiring options, bamboo cabinetry and EcoTop countertops. The pre-fab building process itself reduces material waste and the amount of agitation to a building site.
Tour a cabin prototype, installed at 7476 Olson Drive at the foot of Mount Baker in Deming, Wash., June 22, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Or, for the ultimate demo, contact Method about renting the cabin as a vacation home.
