Space Needle Visits Only $1

October 21 marked the last day of Seattle’s World’s Fair in 1962. It will also mark the last day of the 50th Anniversary celebration of said World’s Fair, which has been bubbling up around Seattle Center in myriad ways since February.
If you haven’t read Knute Berger’s fantastic essay(s) about the impact of the World’s Fair, and it’s many fascinating side effects, you should. Also, you should attend his Denny lecture on November 1. Berger will discuss the origins of the Space Needle and his time spent as the only writer-in-residence there, which led to him writing a book on the subject.
What you really want to know: On Sunday, October 21, it will only cost $1 to ride up to the Space Needle’s Observation Deck (normally it’s $19 for adults). The old school pricing will be in effect all day, 9:30 a.m.-11 p.m. Read the fine print: “Tickets are limited to one per guest and are good for 2-hr time blocks throughout the day. Supplies are limited and tickets will sell out so the public is urged to come early to secure admission.” Also: here’s how to get there.
