Freedom, friends, and long weekend of fun is just a few hours away and we give you a list of things to eat or do before ooh-ing and aah-ing at the Seafair fireworks show

A visit to Cupcake Royale will have you humming our National Anthem after just one look at its red, white and blue Star-Spangled Cupcakes. These patriotic beauties are available in stores now or for order online by the dozen.

Planning a shopping marathon on this long weekend? Cool down at the Seattle Pops kiosk at Southcenter Mall (the local dessert cart will be on hand the whole month of July) and try a variety of sweet, tangy and all-natural flavors like zesty lime, coconut cream, Kona coffee, very strawberry, peach and blueberries ‘n cream.

Take your popsicle with you to the Ballard Locks for a free outdoor concert series. On the July 4, the Seattle Civic Band will perform at 2 p.m.

There’s nothing more American than free hotdogs. Both the meaty and veggie kind will be available at Cal Anderson Park Independence Day Picnic on Saturday. While you’re there, sip a root beer at the root beer tasting garden, enter into a High Five Pie pie eating contest or show off your grand ole’ hula hooping skills all between 11 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

This last one is for those of you who hate to leave your pups at home during the holiday fun. Bellevue Four on the 4th Dog Jog & Walk includes a non-competitive 4K course for you and your patriotic pups and a ton of family/pet-friendly activities. The 3rd annual Dog Jog & Walk kicks off at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 4 at Ashwood Park in downtown Bellevue.
