Pepto pink mannequins and metallic display cages housing Acne Studios leather jackets…this is not the Nordstrom you remember. This is Space: Nordstrom creative director of special projects Olivia Kim’s latest in-store launch, which debuted in the downtown flagship store in August. Offering an exclusive selection of emerging designers—Vetements, Simone Rocha and Creatures of the Wind, to name a few—Space is Kim’s world: a boutique-like setup within Nordstrom’s designer department, where she shares her curated picks of innovative brands that are new to the industry.

The edgier, more intimate environment is the most recent initiative in Kim’s two-year history with the iconic department store. As the previous vice president of current fashion cool kid Opening Ceremony, Kim left New York and is now pairing her talent for finding up-and-coming designers with the opportunity to stock the shelves and (er) racks of Nordstrom.

“I want this to be a place of inspiration and education,” Kim says. “A lot of these pieces are new and directional, but I want it to always feel inclusive. Space is a part of the Nordstrom ethos of offering the best of what’s out there.”
