“A good chandelier is a source of joy and beauty,” says San Francisco–based lighting designer Jonathan Browning. Nowhere is that truer than in the characteristically cloudy Pacific Northwest, where good lighting is crucial. Browning’s architecturally designed pieces—from wall sconces to showstopping chandeliers, which are available exclusively in Seattle at Trammell-Gagné (Seattle Design Center, Georgetown, 5701 Sixth Ave. S, No. 105; 206.762.1511)—show a deep love of both classicism and modern industrial design.

The Rameau circular chandelier (price upon request), he explains, is really a classic candelabra that has been minimized and turned upside down. The chandelier features 10 asymmetrical brass pendants, each with four lights. “In this form, it becomes almost a modern claw—oddly familiar, but fresh and new,” he says.
