The Seattle Sounders season is in full swing and there are plenty of games left on the schedule. If you can’t make it to CenturyLink Field on match day or want a place to hang out for away games, check out these top-notch neighborhood bars with plenty of soccer love. Be sure to get there early as some fill up quickly on match day.

George & Dragon Pub (Fremont)
With the slickest name around town, Seattle’s classic British Pub has been slinging drinks and beans on toast since 1995. Enjoy fine English ales or a good scotch while you and your mates catch the game from its outdoor patio. (206 N. 36th St., 206.545.6864, georgeanddragonpub.com)

The Market Arms (Ballard)
Arrive early on game days to fill up on this Ballard pub’s delicious shepherd’s pie and wash it down with a Newcastle Brown Ale. It’s a sizable bar with a pool table and shuffleboard, but Sounders fans often pack the place during games, so be prepared to get cozy. (2401 NW Market St., 206.789.0470, themarketarms.com)

The Atlantic Crossing Pub (Roosevelt)
Designated an “Official U.S. Soccer Bar,” the AC is one of the premier places to catch a game in Seattle. Sing a loud chorus of “We Love You Sounders” with some Irish whiskey or a frothy Guinness. (6508 Roosevelt Way NE, 206.729.6266, theatlanticcrossing.com)

St. Andrews Bar & Grill (Green Lake)
If St. Andrews’ incredible selection of single-malt scotch isn’t enough of a draw, watching Dempsey score a belter on its 130-inch HD projection screen is the clincher. Try the seasonal fresh-caught haggis—a Scottish pudding comprised of sheep’s heart, liver and lungs. (7406 Aurora Ave. N., 206.523.1193, standrewsbarandgrill.com)

Altstadt (Pioneer Square)
Wanna be close to the action but can’t be at the game? You’re in good hands with Altstadt, Pioneer Square’s endearing German pub. Enjoy Alstadt’s delicious German beer, brats and a “brezel” (a soft pretzel) and step outside for the pregame ritual March to the Match at nearby Occidental Park. (209 1st Ave. S., 206.602.6442, altstadtseattle.com)

West Seattle Brewing Company (West Seattle)
Thanks to this cozy taproom, there’s no need for West Seattleites to cross the bridge on match day. Grab a “Sounders Stout” or two while watching the game with these passionate soccer lovers. Don’t forget to bring your growler for a fill on your way out. (4415 Fauntleroy Way SW, 206.708.6627, westseattlebrewing.com)

Hellbent Brewing Company (Lake City)
The lively brewery has food trucks at the ready, a gorgeous patio for soaking up the sun and abundant screens to watch the Sounders put the L.A. Galaxy in their place. Don’t sleep on Hellbent’s killer red ale, one of Washington’s finest. (13035 Lake City Way NE, 206.361.3707, hellbentbrewingcompany.com)

Flatstick Pub (Pioneer Square/Kirkland)
With trendy mini-golf pubs on both sides of Lake Washington, Flatstick provides options for folks in Pioneer Square and Kirkland. There’s great half-time entertainment between Flatstick’s mini-golf course and “duffleboard” (think mini-golf meets shuffleboard), not to mention a huge tap list. (Pioneer Square, 240 2nd Ave. S., 206.682.0608, flatstickpub.com) or (Kirkland, 15 Lake St. Suite 100, 425.242.1618, flatstickpub.com)

Ozzie’s (Lower Queen Anne)
No, Ozzie’s isn’t named after Seattle Sounders’ super captain Osvaldo “Ozzie” Alonso, but it’s a pretty rad place to watch No. 6 dominate the midfield. Don’t miss out on the great brew list and the 3-pound “Ozzilla” burger and stay for nightly karaoke. (105 W. Mercer St., 206.284.4618, ozziesinseattle.com)

Rhein Haus (Capitol Hill)
A perfect place to gather your Sounder buddies to watch and celebrate a Sounders win. Ample room, plenty of viewing areas for the game, bocce courts for pregame fun and lots of great German brews and food. (912 12th Ave., 206.325.5409, rheinhausseattle.com)

Seattle’s Pizza Just Keeps Getting Better

Seattle’s Pizza Just Keeps Getting Better

New openings across the city make a strong case that Seattle can finally stop apologizing for its pies.

Complaining about Seattle’s pizza scene is a well-worn civic ritual, on par with decrying the sad state of the city’s sports teams. But wake up: It’s 2026, the Seahawks are world champs, the Sonics are coming back, and Seattle is awash in great pizza. Granted, this town of transplants has no “style” to claim as…

A photographer’s look at the small Lummi Island fleet taking part in a long-standing fishing tradition.

While driving across the country from Detroit to San Francisco in October 2024, I stopped on Lummi Island, about 10 miles west of Bellingham, to visit my friend Peter. I had met Peter while traveling with Bread & Puppet Theater, photographing its national tour.  He thought I might be interested in documenting the fishing there,…
