OysterFest

Mason County Fairgrounds, 751 W Fairgrounds Road, Shelton; 360.426.2021; oysterfest.org ? Ahoy, seafood fanatics! Set sail for Shelton on the Olympic Peninsula and catch OysterFest, the 29th annual West Coast Oyster Shucking Championship and Washington State Seafood Festival. The event offers a taste of Washington’s best oceanic hors d’oeuvres, featuring distinctive seafood-themed concoctions from local vendors, plus a cookoff among amateur and professional chefs. Complement your dish (or dishes) of choice with a tasty Washington wine or a frosty microbrew and get ready to cheer on your favorite shucker. Contestants will be judged on shucking speed (Saturday) and presentation of oysters (Sunday). With live music, an art and photography contest, an Iron Chef–style competition and an admission price of $5 (free for kids younger than 6), OysterFest is the pearl of the peninsula.
