'S Marvelous

No current musical is like An American in Paris, the four-time 2015 Tony Award–winning adaption of 1951’s Academy Award Best Picture winner, on stage at The Paramount May 9–14. Packed with s’wunderful classics from George and Ira Gershwin, it tells of an American soldier turned painter finding his muse in the city of love. What makes this production unique is the dance-world genius Christopher Wheeldon (familiar to Pacific Northwest Ballet fans) who is directing and choreographing the classical musical—Wheeldon’s first. “Just about everything in this happily dance-drunk show moves with a spring in its step, as if the newly liberated Paris after World War II were an enchanted place in which the laws of gravity no longer applied,” said critic Charles Isherwood.
