Amazon Hiring Seasonal Workers, Nickelsville to Open in Ballard

How many times have you watched the new Star Wars trailer? That many, eh? Well, it’s time to feast your eyes on something else. Let’s dive into some news of the day, shall we?
Online retailer Amazon has announced that it is creating 100,000 seasonal jobs “across its U.S. network of fulfillment and sortation centers” for the upcoming holiday season. “We’ve hired more than 25,000 full-time associates across the U.S. in recent months and we’re looking forward to adding 100,000 seasonal employees,” Mike Roth, Amazon’s vice president of North America operations said in a press release. “Following last year’s holiday season, tens of thousands of seasonal employees found regular, full-time roles with Amazon. We’re excited to grow our team by finding great talent through our seasonal hiring efforts in addition to creating new full-time jobs that offer comprehensive benefits starting on day one.” To learn more about potential job opportunities, go here.
In more Amazon news: The retailer is slated to open a staffed store near the University of Cincinnati campus (where this gal went to school. Go Cats!). According to Cincinnati.com, “Amazon’s Campus Pick-up Points are meant to bring Amazon’s broad selection, competitive prices and shopping experience to the heart of campuses and offer a number of additional student-focused features.” Its first Campus Pick-up Point opened near Purdue University. Fortune magazine reports Amazon’s pick-up program will also debut at University of California at Berkeley and the University of California at Santa Barbara.
Guitar Hero Live officially launches today. And we’re clearly excited. Back in August during Seattle’s PAX gaming conference, we had the opportunity to give the new iteration a whirl. “We really wanted to take it back to what it means to be a guitar hero,” Nathan Coppard, senior designer at FreeStyleGames, a British music-rhythm games studio that’s under the Activision umbrella, told me during the demo. “Rather than looking up at a band playing up on stage, we put you on stage, flipped the camera around so you’re looking at your crowd of adoring fans. And to make it more visceral and real we shot it with real video footage with real people.”
The Nickelsville homeless encampment will indeed open in Ballard, says KING 5 News. The tent city, which has been the source of complaints from residents and businesses near the area who would rather see it placed elsewhere, will open along Northwest Market Street by the end of the week.
