It’s a bit chilly out there on this fine Monday, but guess what: It will get much colder as the week goes on! Leading off:
Enjoy your 50-degree temps today, it’s about to get a lot colder. Meteorologists say there will be a cold air mass settling over our region, which will bring lows of mid-30s and highs that will only reach up into the mid-40s. Winter is officially here.
Happy early birthday, Washington state! We turn 125 years old tomorrow and KOMO News has the rundown on our exciting and humble beginnings here. There are also plenty of celebrations happening tomorrow to fete the occasion, including a party at the Legislative Building in Olympia, featuring the “capsule keepers,” who have been keeping the state time capsule updated with the latest artifacts. As of this morning, the initiative to reduce class sizes and hire more teachers (1351) is just squeaking by with 18,000 votes, which is currently 50.5 percent to 49.5 percent.
In waterfront redevelopment news: Several businesses and property owners along the changing area have filed a petition to stop construction of a ramp, stating “that the ramp could mar their views, bring unwanted traffic past their windows and hamper their parking. They want the situation sorted out before any piece of the project is begun.” The Seattle Times has all the details here.
